Biography

During the past years, Nicholas has published more than 100 papers in top-tier conferences and journals, including ACM SIGKDD, IEEE TKDE, ACM Ubicomp, ACL, ACM TOIS, WWW, ICDE, AAAI, etc. His research work has been featured by influential media such as MIT Technology Review multiple times. He served as program chair of HuMoComp 2013-2015, industry chair of DASFAA 2017, ASONAM 2016, area chair of NLPCC 2016, and regularly as program committee members in top conferences such as SIGKDD, WWW, ACL, EMNLP, AAAI, IJCAI, ICDM, and WSDM. He is a senior member of ACM, IEEE, and CCF. In 2021, he was recognized as Most Influential Scholar in data mining domain by Aminer AI 2000, ranked Top 20 worldwide and Top 2 in China. Nicholas has been honored with Microsoft Fellowship (2011), Best Application Paper Award of ACM SIGKDD (2016), Best Student Paper Award of ACM SIGKDD (2018) (as the supervisor of the first author), Best Paper Award of IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (2013), Best Paper Runner-up Award of ACM SIGSPATIAL (2010), and Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2013). He was granted First-class Prize of Natural Science Award from Ministry of Education in China (2018). He received 10-Year Impact Honorable Award in ACM SIGSPATIAL 2020 and Test-of-Time Award of ACM SIGKDD 2022.
